Dr. Aura Young

Aura Young organizes professional development programming for graduate students and postdocs, advises the Graduate Life Fellows, helps organize orientation and commencement activities, and coordinates the CGLL’s communication and marketing efforts. She is a former Board member of the US Electronic Thesis and Dissertation Association, represents the Graduate School on the Atkins Library Scholarly Communications Committee, and is working to educate the campus community on the advantages and benefits of Open Access publishing. Aura also serves as a co-PI of a $500,000 NSF Innovations in Graduate Education grant, Applying Cognitive Theories of Learning to Improve Training in STEM Communication. Her educational background includes a BA from UNC Chapel Hill, an MA from Duke University, and a PhD from Yale University. Formerly, her area of expertise was nineteenth-century Russian literature, but now she is passionate about improving the graduate school experience and helping to ensure the success of master’s and doctoral students. Aura has been at Charlotte since 2017.
