Kingsford Onyina is a 3rd year doctoral student in Public Policy. Originally from Ghana, West-Africa, where he earned his bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of Education, Winneba, he proceeded to earn a master’s degree in the same field at Eastern Illinois University.
His research focuses on social safety nets, international development, and applied econometrics. His current work investigates the intergenerational impacts of the 1996 U.S. welfare reform, examining how exposure to punitive policies in childhood affects long-term outcomes such as social capital and financial well-being.
In his free time, Kingsford is committed to empowering prospective and current graduate students. He does this through his YouTube channel which has garnered over 64k+ subscribers and over 2m views since its inception in 2021, sharing tips on how to navigate the graduate school application coupled with online webinars to hone graduate students engaged in quantitative research skills. His favorite place in Charlotte is Frank Liske park, which he always uses as an escape from the demands of graduate school.
